Clarification Regarding Viral Information on Typhoon Usman by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications

Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department would like to clarify regarding the viral information on Typhoon ’USMAN’ that is being spread in the social media.
In that regard, we would like to notify that currently there is no Typhoon identified across our region.
However, the only current system is a Tropical Depression which is named by Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysics, Astronomical Services Administrations (PAGASA) as Tropical Depression Usman. This Tropical Depression is located at 11.3 °N 123.3 °E which is approximately 1400 km from Brunei Darussalam. This system is expected to enter South China Sea in the next few days.
The Tropical Depression is expected to indirectly influence our weather situation in the next few days causing unsettled weather condition with occasional gusty showers which may cause flood or flash flood. Wind gust is expected to increase to 40-50 km/h during or near to the occurrence of heavy rain. While sea state is expected to reach up to 3.0 m.
We would like to advice the general public, motorists and mariners to take necessary precautionary actions to ensure safety, especially during the unsettled weather conditions.
