WEATHER UPDATE FOR BRUNEI DARUSSALAM 20 DECEMBER 2020
20 Dec 2020
Brunei Darussalam is currently in the first phase of the Northeast Monsoon. Generally, during this period unsettled weather conditions with occasional heavy showers or thundershowers are expected especially during the night and early morning. Strong surges from the Northeasterly wind may also result in the increase of wave height over Brunei waters to rough state of up to 3.0 meters.
As of 12.05 pm local time today, a Tropical Depression is observed at 10.7°N 114.9°E, eastern part of South China Sea, approximately 626 km away from Brunei Darussalam. The Tropical Depression is expected to continue moving west-wards and away from our country.
Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation:
Weather condition over Brunei Darussalam in the next few days will be indirectly influenced by the Tropical Depression. Occasional gusty showers are expected to occur, mostly at sea, and may spread to coastal areas. Wind gust may reach up to 50 km/h.
Brunei Darussalam Sea State:
Occasionaly gusty conditions over Brunei waters are expected to increase sea state from moderate to rough sea state with wave heights of up to 3.0 meters in the next few days until Wednesday, 23 December 2020.
Rough sea state is dangerous to all small crafts, and sea recreational activities and sports (i.e. swimming, jetskiiing, scuba diving and others). Mariners and the general public are advised to always be up to date and to take into account the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning before planning any sea recreational activity and to take precaution and necessary actions to ensure safety.
Members of the public and road users are also advised to take note of the risk of flash floods especially at low lying and flood prone areas during heavy showers or thundershowers as well as the risk of falling trees during gusty condition.
Our department shall continue to monitor the weather conditions and will issue appropriate weather advisory or warnings if and when necessary. We also would like to advise the public to keep updated with the latest weather information either by contacting our duty weather forecaster at our Forecast Centre through our Weather Line 114 or visiting our website at www.met.gov.bn or follow our Facebook account (bruneiweather), Instagram (@bruneiweather) and Brunei WX mobile application.
