1. General Situation:

Brunei Darussalam is currently in the intermonsoon period.

As of 11.00 am local time today (12th October 2021), two tropical storms were observed, namely Tropical Storm Kompasu at 18.8°N 118.5°E, at north of the Philippines, approximately 1637 km away from Brunei Darussalam (Figure 1) and Tropical Storm Namtheun at 19.7°N 152.7°E, over the Western Pacific Ocean, approximately 4440 km away from Brunei Darussalam (Figure 2).

Tropical Storm Kompasu is expected to move Westwards and Tropical Storm Namtheun is expected to move Northwestwards, and both tropical storms are projected to move further away from our country.

2. Brunei Weather Situation:

Our country’s weather will not be affected directly by both of the tropical storms. However Tropical Storm Kompasu will indirectly cause slight windy condition with occasional showers crossing the land and sea areas with wind gust of up to 45 km/h in the next few days.

Sea condition is generally expected to be at slight to moderate state with wave height of up to 1.6 m.

3. Our Advice:

Members of the public are advised to take note of the risk of falling trees during gusty condition.

Public and especially fisherman are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take precaution and any necessary actions to ensure safety.
