Brunei Darussalam Monsoon Situation

Brunei Darussalam is currently in the Southwest Monsoon period, where southwesterly wind is likely to be more dominant with stable atmospheric conditions.

However, we had been experiencing active weather conditions in the past few days due to the formation of a low pressure system over South China Sea, which has resulted in moist atmospheric conditions that cause the development of active rain clouds.

Brunei Darussalam Weather Situation

Active weather conditions are forecasted to persist until end of the coming week (16 July 2022) with occasional squally showers, especially in the afternoon and at night, and may prolong until early morning. Showers are expected to be heavy, gusty and thundery at times, with wind gust reaching up to 60 km/h over land areas whereas over Brunei Waters, wind gust may reach up to 80 km/h.

Over Brunei waters, sea state is generally moderate, below 2.0 m.

Our Advice:

Members of the public are advised to take precautionary actions with respect to the forecasted active weather condition. Risk of falling trees is still expected during gusty condition. There is also risk of flash floods especially at low-lying and flood prone areas as well as near the river banks during continuous heavy rain that may last for more than 1 hour and also during high tide.

Public, road users and fishermen are advised to always be up to date with the latest weather forecast, advisory and warning issued by Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department, and to take necessary actions to ensure safety.

We shall continue to monitor the weather conditions and will issue weather advisories or warnings if necessary.
