Tuesday, 1st May 2018 – The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD), Ministry of
Communications, conducted the first ever National Weather Briefing following its launch during the
celebration of World Meteorological Day 2018. A total of 101 participants from government and
private agencies attended the briefing which took place at the Main Auditorium of the Design &
Technology Building in Anggerek Desa.

The National Weather Briefing is one of the department and the Ministry of CommunicationsÂ’
initiatives to invoke engagement with different user groups such as those from Safety and First
Responders, from the Economy and Industry groups and as well as from the Mass Media. The aim of
the briefing is to provide an opportunity for existing as well as potential users of weather and climate
information to interact directly with the BDMD and communicate their respective needs for
information and services.

The ultimate goal of the National Weather Briefing is to improve the understanding and awareness
of various user groups towards the current weather conditions affecting our nation, and also to
facilitate end-users to be more weather-ready and have a better understanding of Brunei
DarussalamÂ’s climate. This was elaborated in the introductory briefing which was delivered by
Awang Mohd NoorÂ’Arifin bin Haji Awang Yussof, Meteorological Officer and also included in the
briefing was Brunei Darussalam Weather, Climate and Seasonal Outlook for May, June and July
which was presented by Dayang Nurulinani binti Hj Jahari, a meteorologist from the BDMD. Other
activities include promotion and selling of BDMDÂ’s coffee table book titled Nubivagant With
Wondrous Scenes of The Abode of Peace as well as the promotion of Brunei WX Mobile Application.
