Following the Brunei Darussalam&rsquos monsoon cycle, the country is still undergoing the monsoon transition period up until the end of May or early June. During the transitional period, the previous Northeasterly dominant wind flow is expected to gradually weakens and change to Southwesterly dominant wind flow by around June. Throughout this period, the country typically experiences hot weather during the daytime while active thunderstorm occurrences are likely during the evening and late night.

Meanwhile, the El-Niño phenomenon that has been occurring over the Pacific Ocean since late 2015 remain present and is weakening. The latest prediction from the leading world climate centers suggest that El-Niño conditions over the Pacific Ocean will slowly dissipate...

1. Keadaan Cuaca Semasa
Pada 14hb Disember 2015, jam 2.00 petang waktu setempat, Taufan MELOR berada di lokasi 12.6°N 124.5°E, di sebelah Timur Negara Filipina, bergerak menuju Barat dengan kelajuan 20 kmsj berserta angin kencang selaju 176 kmsj (Rajah 1). Taufan ini dijangka akan terus bergerak melintasi Negara Filipina, seperti yang diramalkan oleh Pusat Amaran Taufan Bersama Hawai, USA, (Rajah 1).

2. Jangkaan Keadaan Cuaca Negara Brunei Darussalam
Mengikut maklumat cuaca terkini, intensiti Taufan MELOR dijangka akan berkurangan setelah ia melintasi Negara Filipina pada 15 dan 16 Disember. Menjelang 17 Disember, kekuatan Taufan berkenaan terus diramalkan berkurangan dan menjadi tekanan rendah ketika berada di kawasan Laut China Selatan.

1. General Situation
At 2 pm local time, 14 December 2015, Typhoon MELOR was located at 12.6°N 124.5°E, East of the Philippines, moving west at about 20 km/h with maximum wind speed of around 176 km/h (Figure 1). Typhoon MELOR is expected to continue moving Westwards across the Philippines, as indicated by the typhoon track forecast in Figure 1, issued by Joint Typhoon Warning Centre, Hawaii, USA.

2. Brunei Darussalam Weather Outlook
Based on the latest information, Typhoon MELOR is expected to reduce its intensity as it continues crossing the Philippines on 15th and 16th December. By 17th December, the typhoon is forecasted to downgrade to a low-pressure area as it enters South China Sea areas.

Based on the monsoon cycle, the Northeast Monsoon is expected to start in Brunei Darussalam in
December until March. Normally, during the Northeast Monsoon season, the country will experience
very active weather conditions with occasional heavy showers and thundershowers in the afternoon
or evening, prolonged rain, and thunderstorms during late night or early morning, especially in
December and January.

The prevailing regional weather conditions and the latest seasonal forecasts issued by the major
world climate centres indicate that the presence of strong El Nino conditions (associated with
